Miryam Johnson (She/Her)
OSA Program Manager
Originally from Akron, Ohio, Miryam's parents instilled a deep appreciation for the arts in her and her siblings. Much of her young years were spent training in performing arts public schools, creating dances with her cousins and dreaming of days when she would perform on a major stage.
She later went on to receive dual degrees in Dance and African American Studies from Eastern Michigan University as well as professionally performed with many nationally recognized dance choreographers. Because she so strongly values the passing of knowledge she was drawn to dance education and arts organizing.
Outside of Living Arts Detroit, Miryam is a co-founder of, local dance organization, Collective Sweat Detroit (CSD). Beyond dance you can catch Miryam, hanging out with her cat Poof, changing around her home decor for the 1000th time, and watching nature documentaries.
Q: What is the most memorable or most impactful art experience you've had as an adult?
A: Returning to my Alma Mater to set a new dance work on the very department that trained me was an incredible full circle moment.
