Miryam G. Johnson is the Living Arts OSA Program Manager, YDE Company Director, and a Dance Educator rooted in liberatory movement techniques. In her youth, dance was a focal point of her education and shaped her understanding of dance as a healing practice. A dedicated member of Detroit’s dance community since 2015, Johnson’s work pays homage to Detroit for helping her deepen and expand her movement politic. Her professional choreographic works have been commissioned by the Charles H. Wright Museum, Sidewalk Festival, Eastern Michigan University, Detroit Dance Collective, the Henry Ford Museum, and the musician, Supercoolwicked. In June 2024 , Miryam G. Johnson was named a 2024 Gilda Snowden Awardee for her work as a Choreographer and Dancer. This was awarded by Kresge Arts in Detroit, a program of The Kresge Foundation, for emerging artists.

Q: What is the funniest thing you’ve heard a young person say?

A: “Ms. M...Did you realize you only make money because of us? We basically pay your bills.”

Q: If you could be BFF’s with any fictional character, who would it be?

A: Garnet from Steven Universe! She's awesome and we could trade dance moves!

Q: What art form or hobby have you always wanted to try?

A: Fiber Arts, Sewing!

Q: What is the most memorable or impactful art experience you’ve had as an adult?

A: Building my first evening-length concert! <3
